Founded in 1996, The Honeypot Children's Charity supports young carers and other children aged 5-12 who need additional support and a boost to their self-esteem to help them flourish.
Our programme is designed to improve children's wellbeing, alleviate social isolation, reduce stress and anxiety, turn around poor confidence and increase educational achievement. We operate three houses in UK countryside locations in Hampshire, Powys and East Ayrshire. The children come for residentials, benefitting from Health and Wellbeing (formerly known as SEAL) breaks in term-time and short breaks for play and adventure during weekends and holidays. We also provide special memory-making days out; and wellbeing grants to families experiencing hardship. Our services give children a safe, inclusive, nurturing and empowering environment where they can make amazing memories and develop their full potential for a bright future.
The William Wates Memorial Trust has awarded a 3-year grant of £28,100 for our Health and Wellbeing programme at our New Forest, Hampshire house. For Health and Wellbeing, we work together with local schools to reach children who need that extra helping hand to develop their confidence, independence and resilience to help them feel better at school and more able to take part and achieve their best. Health and Wellbeing is a three-week programme for a small group of up to 12 children each time. We work with children in their school both before and after a four-day residential at Honeypot House. During their stay, the children take part in activities including den-building in the forest, designing and building their own civilisation, positive-relationship self-portraits, making 'worry monsters' to tell their worries to, and visiting a local educational attraction. The activities are structured to help them develop their emotional coping strategies, social skills, teamwork, leadership and presentation skills. The aim is to build their self-worth and enable the children to take their new skills back to the classroom.
