The Star Scheme is an innovative new programme with a mission to support, transform and achieve through rugby. The scheme makes a real difference to the lives of young people who are suffering or have suffered adverse childhood experiences, poverty or mental health issues.
Star provides support from specialist training, one to one coaching, match kit, transport to and from training, after match food, club subscriptions, and tour costs for each player and parent. The programme allows children to take part in a team sport who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity. And the benefits are transformative, from increased physical and emotional health, resilience and sense of purpose.
Star has been recognised by the RFU and Bristol Bears as unique, and recently nominated for the Rhino Rugby International Grass Roots Award, one of only four schemes across the world! The programme will initially focus on the Bristol area, before expanding nationally… watch this space!
