MAPS: (Mentoring, Advocacy and Peer Support), is a project that sits within Volunteer Centre Sutton.
MAPS Mentoring is dedicated to empowering vulnerable children and young people who are either experiencing or at risk of being drawn into negative behaviour such as anti-social conduct, criminal activities, involvement in gangs, radicalisation, substance and drug abuse, and displaying challenging behaviour in school which may lead to permanent exclusion.
Our programme operates through the invaluable support of dedicated adult volunteers who serve as one-to-one role models for these young people. By fostering meaningful connections with their mentors, the young people are equipped with the necessary tools to set and pursue their goals and aspirations. Through this mentorship, young people become actively engaged in their communities, resulting in increased self-confidence, self-esteem and reduced anti-social behaviour, which in turn allows them to make positive choices and to realise their full potential, as they are encouraged to examine their thoughts and actions within a safe and non-judgmental space. This program serves as a platform for young people to explore and address the challenges they face.
Throughout their mentoring journey, participants receive comprehensive support through weekly face to face meetings, enabling them to acquire new skills, engage in new activities, and experience the joy of personal growth. At MAPS Mentoring, we believe in the power of positive connections, providing young individuals with the opportunity to not only navigate through life’s obstacles but also discover new horizons and enjoy the journey along the way.
