Redthread is a dynamic youth work charity whose vision is a world in which all young people lead healthy, safe and happy lives.
They aim to empower young people to thrive as they navigate the challenging transition from adolescence to adulthood, by integrating trauma-informed youth work into the health sector.
Redthread’s expert youth workers meet young people in the Emergency Departments of London’s Major Trauma Centre hospitals. A violent incident such as a stabbing leaves the whole community reeling. Youth workers support young people to choose not to retaliate, engage with other services, or move into places of safety. They support, mentor, advise, advocate, and empower young people to access other services and organisations and develop their own personal skills and strengths. Young people who work with Redthread are much less likely to continue living violent lifestyles, making whole communities safer and healing the wounds left by violence.
They also provide youth work support at the Well Centre, a holistic health hub in Streatham. Here young people can meet with a youth worker, GP and CAMHS counsellor under the same roof, with no need for a referral. This service supports young people to seek help for health concerns early and to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.
Through these projects, Redthread support young people to improve their physical and mental health, move away from violence and crime, and fulfil their potential.
